About Higgins

  • Status: Adopted!
  • Species: Dog
  • Rescue ID: BCOH0820Higgins
Higgins is about 1-2 years old and 50#. He was malnourished and dehydrated on our intake. Higgins is a young active dog. He has been living in a foster home after being neutered and has been treated for eye entropion via surgery on November 6. His post op check with the surgeon gave him an excellent prognosis. Higgins is now fully healed and he has the green light for all activities and no further eye treatment. Aside from still being a bit thin, he is 100% healthy. Higgins is a shy boy but very sweet. He wouldn’t hurt a thing. He enjoys playing with the other dogs that he is living with. He is a beautiful dog, a real hound prototype. Higgins is good on the leash and enjoys his daily 3 mile walks each morning. He gets excited when he encounters other dog walkers, but otherwise he is well behaved. When his foster family leaves the house, they had been crating Higgins but more recently have left him loose in the house for shorter times when he doesn't have supervision. Higgins also goes to Fur Kids doggie day care at times. He does well there, and comes home tired after a full day of playing with the other dogs. Higgins is mostly house trained. He still has an accident every once in a while if he can't get outside, and has steadily improved in his time with his foster family. Higgins was probably not a family or house pet before he came in to Ohio Hound Rescue, so he has come a long way. He is quiet in the house, but gets enthusiastic when he knows it is time for a walk and to eat. Higgins is warming up to attention from people. He wants to be a companion, and we see that emerging from his apprehension as he transitions to being a pet for a person or a family. He'll do best with someone who walks or jogs with him consistently, and would prefer to have another young rabble rouser pooch to play with. **Dogs listed here have entered our program and have received a basic level of vet care including: vaccines (DHLPP & Rabies); bloodwork (heartworm test); deworm and deflea; spay or neuter; vet exam. Each pet comes with one free vet follow up consultation at Red Bank Vet Hospital. Fees requested at time of adoption help with a small part of the care provided, and are non-refundable.
